During Key Stage 3 we introduce students to a wide range of career opportunities using the 23 ONS careers categories. Each student will learn about different careers during Advisory time. This gives them the chance to understand the huge range of career pathways open to them. In addition to this in the Summer Term students will be taught in PSHE a Careers, personal finance and the economy. Here students will learn about income and expenditure, budgeting, debt, bank accounts, payslips, tax, credit/debit, careers
In year 8 students build upon year 7 and what they were taught in PSHE and develop their careers, personal finance and the economy knowledge, understanding and application though a taught unit on Careers, CV making, BTECs vs GCSEs, college vs university, interview practice, university. Students will develop their ability to understand essential and future skills and communicate their own skills development through CVs, Personal Statement and Mock Interviews.

In Year 9, students will have advice and guidance on options and the different career paths and opportunities that GCSEs and BTECs could lead to. They will receive support at options evening as well as 1-2-1 guidance from their Advisor. In the curriculum students will also be given allocated time to undertake ASPIRATIONS WORK EXPERIENCE DIPLOMA (AWED).
The AWED is a new course that opens up experiences of the workplace to any young person, improving social mobility, broadening and deepening learning around the employment and enterprise market. Students will have the opportunity to explore future possibilities with Bournemouth University via workshops, mentoring as well as all Year 9 students attending the Careers and Apprenticeship Show at the BIC.
The content is currently split across 23 different sectors with a variety of introductory experiences and longer, project-based challenges which incorporate teaching content from businesses and organisations, mentoring and feedback from their staff, visits and shadowing within the workplace and reflection from students about their personal knowledge, skills and behaviours development.
Our aims at Aspirations are for our students to learn about the world, how it currently works and challenges them to come up with ways to make it better. These ideals are included within the sector projects and can be taken further within the Weyforward Ideas League Challenge as we support our students to create their own companies with more inclusive, sustainable and equitable solutions to our problems.
