The Future of Work
As a result of technological progress and demographic changes (ageing population, more diverse ethnicity etc), more than six million people in the UK are currently employed in occupations that are likely to change radically or disappear entirely by 2030. Without immediate action, there’s a risk these people will be trapped in insecure, low-value, low-pay employment – or worse, forced out of work altogether. We need to ensure our young people are clear about these changes and can make sure they learn the right values and the future skills to maintain their employability and their ability to create. Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are qualifications and training that can be completed in the workplace alongside a course at an FE College or University (in the case of degree apprenticeships). There are a few myths about this pathway which need to be dismissed: they are NOT the easy option; they are NOT just for those that are ‘non-academic’; they are NOT just for people that want to stay in the area.
Apprenticeships often have very high grade requirements and you need to be able to produce evidence of your resilience, communication, commitment, understanding of the business and so on. Apprenticeships can also be equivalent to a degree. Many apprenticeships can be found outside of the local area. In fact, some of these courses may need you to move to another part of the country.

University
Students generally start to apply for University from June/July of Year 12. Deadlines for UCAS are mid-January (Year 13), though there are tighter deadlines for Oxbridge, Medicine and a number of other courses (October Year 13). It is worth checking when looking at your courses. Many universities interview, some even use extra testing. Information on all of this can be found below.

PERSONALITY TESTING CAREERS SITES:
Based on the classic Myers-Briggs or Holland Code tests, students can use these quizzes to get them thinking about different careers in a fun and engaging way. Answering the questions encourages students to reflect on their likes, dislikes and what they’re good at, making the test a valuable tool to use with KS3 & 4 as well as KS5.
How does it work?
Once students have taken the quiz, they’re shown their closest match personality type as well as similar profiles. We’re really keen not to pigeonhole students so as well as showing similar personality types, we also suggest they retake the test every 6 months. This is to make sure students view their personality type as one aspect of a holistic view of themselves, rather than putting them in a box.
